The phrase 'Granny Undies' is a misnomer. Any woman over the age of 30 will tell you that you that anything that starts as a roomy brief in the morning will end the day as the world's bulkiest thong. In fact the only people who can rock the 'Granny' look from dawn to dusk without strategic readjustment are sixteen-year-old girls.
When it comes to underpants, men have it easy- they pick boxers, briefs or boxer briefs and call it a day. Women, on the other hand, may have a plethora of choices, but most likely spend the day picking at their choice in attempt to keep it in its original position. Bottom line? Most women's panties are a tad too cheeky for their own good.
Uncomfortable and impractical undergarments may have their place, just not in today's blog, or on my everyday tush. I'd rather not walk about looking like the 'before' in an Underalls commercial or a sargeant on wedgie patrol. I set out to find some basic options that keep all the basic needs (minimal panty lines, comfort and style) covered. Here are my top no-pick picks for wedgie free styles and brands:
1. Bikini Briefs- A classic and straightforward style, the goal is to find ones that hit the perfect balance between being bikini and brief. I've had great luck with No Nonsense's Soft Cotton Bikini Panties. They keep their shape and will only set you back $6.99 for a two pack. Believe it or not, I buy mine at my local Shoprite. (zuper zexy, no?) I also have two friends who swear by Gap's regular rise full cotton bikini, currently on sale for $4.- and they're both picky- in the good way!
2.Hipster briefs- A fun and modern cut, the trick is finding ones that keeps your assets covered without broadcasting their existence to the folks in the rear. A dependable, inexpensive option is Hanes Women's No Ride Up 100% Cotton Hipsters, which not only fit the bill, but at only $8 for a package of six, you can still afford pants to wear over them. They also are low enough to stay hidden when you rock low slung jeans.For ABSOLUTELY no lines or movement, it's impossible to beat Soma Intimates' Vanishing Edge Microfiber Hipsters at 4 for $36. I find they run a tad small, so you might want to order a size up.
3. Thongs- No longer synonymous with dental floss and a quarter-sized wedge of fabric, today's thongs are responding to the fact most underwear end up as thongs by the end of the day anyway. These clever designs cut out the middleman: Cosabella's Never Say Never Cutie Lowrider Thong is probably the most comfortable, luxurious design on the market. It's also $20. A less expensive option that also features the same flatteringly wide elasticized lace is the new Lacie thong at Victoria's Secret. Currently priced at 3/$25 on sale, they're comfortable and absolutely invisible under clothing. My only thong warning: if you dress in front of your significant other, you might want to warn that person, sternly, that you are wearing a thong out of practicality, not as an invitation for "affection".
My bottom line take: Once you find a cut and brand that fits stock up. Next time someone tells you not to get your panties in a bunch you'll be able to look 'em square in the eye and tell them that's SO not your style- at all!
